Skill Development Activities Supported by Vizag General Cargo Berth Pvt. Ltd.

Background and Objectives

Centre for Excellence in Maritime Studies (CEMS), in association with Vizag General Cargo Berth Pvt. Ltd. (VGCB), undertook targeted skill development interventions under the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework to benefit youth residing in port and GVMC areas of Visakhapatnam. The initiative aligns with VGCB’s commitment to enhancing community employability and supporting sustainable socioeconomic progress within its operational regions.

FY 2024–25 Initiative – Outcomes and Impact

During the financial year 2024–25, CEMS and VGCB jointly organized skill training programmes for 90 youth across three industry-relevant roles: Assistant Electrician, CNC Operator, and Inventory Clerk, each comprising a batch of 30 trainees. The programmes were designed in accordance with industry required standards and prioritized hands-on training and industry exposure. Upon successful completion, 90% of the participants secured placements in reputed organizations, including Amazon, Hero MotoCorp, and Eqic Dies and Moulds Engineers Pvt. Ltd., thus validating the effectiveness of the intervention in enhancing employability and socioeconomic status of the beneficiaries.

FY 2025–26 Expansion and Current Status

Building on the demonstrated success, VGCB has renewed and expanded its CSR partnership with CEMS for the financial year 2025–26, sponsoring the skill development of 210 youth across seven diversified job roles: Assistant Electrician, CNC Operator, Warehouse Executive, Inventory Clerk, Welder, EXIM Executive, and Product Design Engineer. Each batch consists of 30 trainees, with a focus on emerging industry requirements and regional demand for skilled professionals.
As of this reporting period:

  • The Warehouse Executive batch has been successfully completed and successfully placed all 30 candidates in Flipkart warehouses located in, Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad and Vijayawada.
  • Training for the Product Design Engineer batch is currently underway.
  • The next batch for Assistant Electrician is scheduled to commence in the third week of October 2025.

CEMS remains committed to ensuring quality training delivery, robust monitoring mechanisms, and strong placement linkages for all programme beneficiaries as part of its ongoing collaboration with VGCB.
