EXECUTIVE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM IN Disruptive Technologies For Port Management & Shipping Logistics — Offered By: Indian Institute of Management Mumbai (IIM Mumbai) & Centre of Excellence in Maritime & Shipbuilding (CEMS)

Additive Manufacturing Lab

Brief Overview:

Additive Manufacturing (AM) is the industrial term for 3D printing—a computer-controlled process that produces three-dimensional objects by adding material layer by layer. Although still emerging, additive manufacturing enables businesses to reduce costs and shorten production timelines through its unique applications and flexibility.

Software Used:

  • Ultimaker Cura:
A powerful slicing software that transforms your 3D model files into layer-by-layer instructions (g-code) for 3D printers. Cura supports a wide range of printers and optimizes models for efficient, precise printing.
  • PrusaSlicer:
Designed for Prusa 3D printers, PrusaSlicer converts 3D designs into thin printable layers, generating specific instructions to guide the printer in building your object accurately.

Hardware Available:

Accucraft i250D – Hybrid Dual Extruder 3D Printer:

  • Industrial-grade machine with a build volume of 200×250×200mm
  • Features dual extruders, allowing simultaneous printing with different materials or colors
  • Compatible with a wide range of materials: ABS, PLA, HIPS, PETG, wood-infused, metal-infused, carbon fiber, polycarbonate, and flexible filaments
  • Delivers precise outputs with an accuracy of approximately ±80–150 microns
  • Minimal post-processing required

Prusa SL1S – MSLA 3D Printer

  • Built with a rigid, heavy aluminum frame to reduce vibrations and maximize printing accuracy
  • Quick-release mechanism maintains precise Z-axis calibration
  • Primarily uses tough resin — strong, easy to print, and capable of producing extremely detailed parts
  • Ideal for applications such as miniature models, action figures, jewelry, functional prototypes, and other intricate designs.
